Building Empathy with RedRover Readers
Limited Capacity seats available

The RedRover Readers program is a social and emotional learning program that uses high-quality children's literature to help further strengthen the human-animal bond by helping children, ages 5-11, develop the steps necessary for empathy: being able to recognize human and animal emotions, share emotions and regulate emotions in order to connect in positive ways with others.
Attendees will learn how to use questions to generate critical thinking; will learn about the relationship between reading and developing empathy and will have a greater understanding on how stories about animals illustrate the human-animal bond.
Workshop folders will be provided - please bring a notepad and a pen.

Teens as Teachers: Using the RedRover Readers program to Activate Teen Leadership
Limited Capacity seats available

RedRover recently hosted it's first "teen pilot program", where teens from Ballard High School completed the RedRover Readers online course and learned how to implement the curriculum in elementary school classrooms. The goal of this pilot program was to see if teenagers could successfully help younger students practice the steps necessary for empathy: recognize human and animal emotions, share emotions and regulate emotions in order to connect in positive ways with others.

Attendees will learn how to activate teen's leadership skills by giving them tools and strategies to help teach and mentor younger students' social and emotional learning skills. Please bring a pen and a notepad. Workshop materials will be provided.
