Creating a School-wide Reading Culture: How Summer Reading Can Spark Change
Limited Capacity seats available

This session will emphasize the importance of student choice in reading selections as well as the importance of adults modeling independent reading. It will explore how one high school transformed its summer reading program from being solely the English teacher’s responsibility to being every teacher's responsibility and will share pros and cons of the new system. As a former English teacher and current librarian who experienced both methods, the speaker will share how the school-wide summer reading model and some new innovations are changing the school culture. The session will provide specific ideas and steps for how to enact change and generate excitement about reading.
