Limited Capacity filling up

Why are most digital citizenship lessons inadequate in cracking filter bubbles? Can school librarians reach students before they become the misinformed news consumers of tomorrow? What factors (including neurological) cause people to be vulnerable to believing falsehoods - and how can school librarians hope to counter these factors? What does the future of “fake news” hold? What methods of spreading misinformation (e.g. memes, deepfakes) pose special challenges to media literacy? How can library media specialists and journalists work together to restore a healthy respect for journalism? How can we frame news literacy issues better so that we have the most impact on this generation and future generations?

This session attempts to tackle these and other essential questions.
